History
I’ve always believed “Mr. President” is a title that deserves respect no matter the party or difference of opinions. I’ve looked to the heavens, shook my head from side to side and let out heavy sighs in order to endure this administration, but enough is enough.
Try as they might, they will not succeed in erasing the history of Black people. It seems President Donald Trump cannot grasp that Black history is American history. What is this over-the-top concern in altering the truth? History, after all, is the good, the bad and the ugly. The insistence of removal of slavery artifacts, landmarks, banned books, etc. will not change what happened. If anything it shows the resilience of our country.
I’m well aware many agree with Trump’s views and it sickens me to my core that these hateful ideals and rhetoric are being touted as the end-all and be-all to the young to this very day. I just hope the youth will remember that you do not hide from history — you learn from it. Even still I have hope for the future generation.

Governor’s race
Is it just me? When I hear Democratic candidate and former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger speak, she reminds me of Hillary Clinton. All she seems to say is, “You must elect me, because I’ll fight everything President Donald Trump tries to do.”
We have an opportunity to elect Republican candidate and Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, who appears to be a well-qualified person to continue our current governor’s great policies for Virginia.
We have an opportunity to elect our first female governor. Earle-Sears appears to be a well qualified person to fill the shoes of the best governor that Virginia has had in many a year.
Voters, step up and break the glass ceiling. Elect Earle-Sears. I personally don’t want to listen to Spanberger for the next four years.

Virginia Guard
Re “Virginia National Guard mobilizes to support ICE” (A2, Sept. 18): Let me get this straight. Our President Donald Trump-loving governor has called up Virginia National Guard members to support ICE with duties that include “answering phones, data entry, appointment scheduling, biometric collection, basic vehicle maintenance, tracking fleet expenses and usage.”
Perhaps ICE, with its gargantuan new budget allocation, could simply hire clerks and vehicle maintenance people to do these jobs? After all, there are lots of citizens who cannot find jobs these days. Or perhaps Gov. Glenn Youngkin, in his zeal to cut our taxes, might think twice about the costs to the taxpayers who will foot the bill for guard members forced to leave their own jobs to perform clerical tasks for ICE?
Perhaps someday we’ll have a governor who puts Virginians’ interests above loyalty to the feudal lord in Washington. Oh wait, that will happen on Jan. 17.

Jay Jones
I’m tired of the ads saying Democratic candidate for Virginia attorney general Jay Jones is soft on crime.
I’ll tell you who is soft on crime: The party that elected a president with 34 felony convictions. That’s pretty soft. The party that justified the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. That’s pretty soft. The party that pardoned all the law-breakers serving time for breaking laws on Jan. 6. That’s pretty soft. The party that has enabled and covered up all of Jeffery Epstein’s crimes. That’s disgustingly soft. The party that thinks it’s OK to send out masked ICE agents to snatch people off the streets without a shred of due process. That’s not soft, it’s illegal.
Jones will be an attorney general that we can be proud of, an attorney general who will treat people equally under the law without fear or favor. That’s what I want in an attorney general.
