Cruelty in America cannot stand

I just watched a video of an ICE raid of a five-story apartment complex in Chicago at 1 a.m. with helicopters and hundreds of federal agents. Women and young children were paraded onto the streets, some of them with no clothes, and tied together for hours. I do not know why our government decided to do this. From what I have learned from news reports, none of the hundreds of detained occupants had a criminal record and most were American citizens. I live in Williamsburg and am sure many of my neighbors believe this could never happen in our little bubble until it does. How in God’s name does anyone think this kind of behavior from our government is acceptable? So, how will you respond when walking on Duke of Gloucester Street when you are asked to “show your papers?”

What was up with the Tribe’s uniforms?

I thought William & Mary’s colors are green and gold. I’m confused about the ugly uniforms the Tribe wore in the North Carolina A&T game. The football program must be raking in the dough to be able to waste money on alternate uniforms for the team.

Editor’s note: The team wore pink accents on their green and gold home uniforms for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

When will Republicans stand up to Trump?

The cliché “All that is necessary for evil men to triumph is for good men to do nothing” is etched in stone.  Although I am not as sure as I once was, I am willing to concede for the sake of argument that Congressman Rob Wittman is a good man. President Trump demonstrates the opposite on numerous occasions every day. Yet Wittman and his fellow Republicans do nothing to stand up to him and his attacks on the foundations of our American democracy. By their inaction they are allowing Trump to triumph in his unlawful actions. I don’t know what it will take to restore Wittman’s spine, but I hope the voters will remember his abject silence next November.

Vote blue this November

Trump has gone bananas, and those who could remove him with the 25th Amendment won’t. Were it not for the Republican Party, Trump would have been impeached and removed from office way back at the end of his first term. The man incited a riot that killed several people and desecrated the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. And, they could do that now for any number of illegal things he has commanded be done, but won’t. The only thing that will save our republic is getting rid of Trump and all Republicans by voting blue in this year’s elections and next year’s as well. Yes, we need state government to protect us from the federal government. It’s just that simple. Vote BLUE!
