Long Island man arrested for deadly drunken crash with motorcycle

A Long Island man has been arrested and accused of causing a deadly drunken hit-and-run car crash on Sunday night, police said.

Patrick Thompson, a 59-year-old Levittown, N.Y., resident, was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a deadly accident, Nassau County police said Monday in an alert.

A 63-year-old man riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle was killed in the wreck, cops said. He has not been publicly identified further.

Thompson was driving a 2009 Chevrolet westbound on North Jerusalem Road, along the border of East Meadow and North Bellmore, police said. He collided with the Harley rider, who was headed eastbound, near Sherman Avenue around 11 p.m., authorities said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Thompson initially fled on foot but was captured nearby without incident, police said. His arraignment was scheduled for Monday.

The wreck in Nassau County was not the only deadly motorcycle crash in the tristate area on Sunday night. In Toms River, N.J., two people were killed when a bike crashed around 8 p.m., police said. Neither of the victims were identified; cops initially described them as the motorcycle rider and a pedestrian.
