One person was taken to a hospital late Wednesday afternoon as a trauma alert after reports of a shooting on Interstate 95 near Boca Raton, according to a fire rescue official and first responder radio communications.
All lanes of northbound I-95 were shut down beyond the Hillsboro Boulevard exit shortly before 4:30 p.m., according to traffic alerts from Florida 511.
Someone called 911 reporting an accident and being shot in the head on the interstate just south of Palmetto Park Road, according to first responders’ radio transmissions archived by the site Broadcastify. At least two vehicles, including a box truck, were involved.
Helicopter video from WSVN-Ch.7 showed a black SUV that appeared to have its passenger-side window shot out and a bullet hole in the white box truck.
When first responders arrived, a man was standing outside of one of the cars with blood on the front of his body, according to the radio transmissions.
Boca Raton Fire Rescue took one person to a hospital as a trauma alert, a spokesperson said.
Lt. Indiana Miranda, a Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson, said the Broward Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and could not provide further information.
Lanes are closed while the Sheriff’s Office investigates, and Miranda said as of about 6 p.m. that there is no estimate for when they will reopen.
