Man, 63, dies months after being hit by a vehicle in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH — A man who was hit by a vehicle just over three months ago has died, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.

On Sept. 11 at 8:50 p.m., police responded to the 5800 block of Northampton Boulevard for a crash involving a pedestrian, according to a release.

At the time, the pedestrian, 63-year-old Kevin Rice, of Virginia Beach, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police. He died on Friday.

Rice attempted to cross the northbound lanes of Northampton Boulevard without the right-of-way when he was hit by a vehicle, according to a preliminary investigation. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

“Pedestrian safety is not just shared responsibility; it is a community priority,” Chief Paul W. Neudigate said in the release. “Every driver and every pedestrian have a role to play in preventing tragedies. By staying alert, obeying traffic laws, and respecting crosswalks, we can reduce injuries and save lives.”

No other information has been released.
