Man accused of pretending to be student at Ohio high school pleads guilty to charges

PERRYSBURG, Ohio — A man accused of posing as a student at a Northwest Ohio high school when he was in his mid-20s has pleaded guilty to multiple federal charges, reports say.

WTVG Channel 13 reports Anthony Emmanuel Labrador-Sierra, 24, pleaded guilty last week in federal court to possession of a firearm by an alien unlawfully in the United States; false statement during purchase of a firearm; and two counts of making or using false writings or documents.

Labrador-Sierra, of Venezuela, claimed to be 16-year-old Anthony Labrador when he enrolled at Perrysburg High School in January 2024. He had an Ohio driver’s license and a Social Security number, and was enrolled as an unaccompanied minor who had been given temporary protected status.

“This situation is both as troubling as it is heartbreaking,” Perrysburg Schools Superintendent Tom Hosler said in May, according to The Blade. “Members of our staff and community opened their hearts and homes to someone they believed was a vulnerable teenager who had been abused and needed help.”

Labrador-Sierra had been living with two adult legal guardians. The guardians contacted authorities after learning that Labrador-Sierra was not a minor, WTVG reports.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio says Labrador-Sierra faces up to 30 years in prison.
