A Hartford man was arrested Thursday in connection with a fatal shooting in Hartford in 2024.
Courtney Byrd, 22, is facing charges of felony murder and carrying a pistol without a permit for a shooting in August 2024, according to Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department.
Officers responded to 3250 Main St. around 1:42 a.m. on August. 24, 2024 on a report of person shot and located a gunshot victim who was unresponsive at the scene. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Niajae Vernon of Hartford, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, Boisvert said.
During the investigation conducted by the Hartford Police Department’s Major Crimes and Crime Scene
Divisions, a suspect was developed, according to Boisvert.
Probable cause was established, and an arrest warrant was issued for Byrd, Boisvert said.
Byrd was located by members of the Major Crimes Division, Street Crimes Unit and Violent Crimes Unit on Thursday and taken into custody. He was transported to the Hartford Police Detention Division for processing and was being held on a $950,000 bond.
