A second person has been convicted for his role in a June 2024 homicide at an Allentown park, according to the Lehigh County district attorney’s office.
Grelvis Estevez Cabrera, 29, of Bethlehem, was found guilty by a Lehigh County Court jury of first-degree criminal homicide following a weeklong trial that concluded Friday evening.
The jury also found Estevez Cabrera committed criminal homicide and tampered with evidence. He faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole, the DA’s office said in a news release.
A second defendant, Carlos N. Landesta-Agramonte, 20, of Allentown, pleaded guilty Monday to third-degree murder and conspiracy. He could face up to 40 years in prison.
Both men are scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 25.
A third defendant who also fled the shooting scene, Wilmer E. Marte-Tavarez, 23, of Lords Valley, Pike County, was apprehended in July and is awaiting trial, according to the news release. He was was identified as the shooter, District Attorney Gavin Holihan previously said.
Allentown police responded to Fountain Park for a report of a shooting about 6:30 p.m. June, 1, 2024, and found Angel Martinez-Velez dead on the basketball court. He died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The men fled in separate cars but Estevez Cabrera and Landesta-Agramonte were arrested several days after the shooting, police said. Numerous city cameras, license plate readers and tips from witnesses enabled investigators to identify one of the vehicles, and the work eventually led them to apprehend the three suspects.
The investigation remains ongoing, according to the DA’s office.
