One of three suspects accused of attacking a man during a home invasion robbery in Miramar early Monday morning, then stealing his French bulldog, has been arrested, police said.
Shortly before 4 a.m., Miramar officers were responding to an unrelated call near the 3000 block of Southwest 128th Terrace when they heard screaming and gunshots, according to a redacted arrest report released Monday evening.
Officers found a man at a nearby home with “injuries consistent with being pistol-whipped,” and officers saw bullet shell casings at the scene, police department spokesperson Janice McIntosh said in a statement.
The man told officers he was in his living room near a sliding door when he saw lights outside his home turn on, according to the arrest report. He grabbed his gun, which was secured in a holster, and went outside.
Three people who were armed with rifles, wearing hoodies and masks, then “ambushed” him, the report said, and forced him back inside his home. The suspects hit him with the rifles and demanded belongings from him.
The man was able to escape at some point during the robbery and ran to a neighbor’s home to call for help, according to the report. He told officers he could hear the suspects still inside his home after he left, and he saw one of the three leave while pointing a rifle in his direction.
After the attack, the man’s temple, lip and nose were cut, and he had a bruise on the back of his head, the report said.
His French bulldog was taken during the attack but later found in the area, McIntosh said.
Just after the nearby officers heard gunshots, they saw a woman wearing all black carrying a backpack running away from the area, later identified as Juliana Serna, 21, of Pembroke Pines. After a short chase, she was detained, the report said. A bag with about 1.4 grams of cocaine was found in the backpack.
Serna was arrested on one count of home invasion robbery with a firearm and one count of possession of cocaine, according to the report. She was taken to the Main Jail.
