A man was seriously injured after crashing head-on into a tree in Norwalk on Saturday.
Emergency personnel responded to a single-car crash with heavy entrapment on Route 7 in Norwalk early Saturday morning, according to the Norwalk Fire Department Local 830.
First responders located the vehicle in the center grass median of the Route 7 connector in the area of Exits 2 to 1, fire officials said. Initial reports from Connecticut State Police indicated that there was a single occupant trapped in the vehicle.
Engine Company 1 was the first to arrive at the scene and reported that there was a single car that collided head-on into a tree in the median, fire officials said. Engine 1 crew began assessing the patient and determining the level of entrapment. “A precautionary hose line was stretched to protect the occupant and members operating on the scene,” according to fire officials.
Numerous other first responders arrived shortly at the scene to assist in removing the driver from the vehicle using extrication tools, while Norwalk EMS began advanced life support, fire officials said.
According to fire officials, the driver was extracted from the vehicle after 28 minutes and was transported to Norwalk Hospital with serious injuries.
Fire officials said Connecticut State Police are investigating the crash.
