A man took a woman hostage Monday at an Osceola County motel, prompting deputies and SWAT team members to set up a perimeter around the building and call in negotiators, police said.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call just before noon about a domestic situation at The Heritage Park Inn on East Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway. Two men, including the suspect, got into a physical fight in a motel room. The suspect threatened to harm the other man, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
When the other man left the room, the suspect took a woman hostage. The relationship between the suspect and the woman is currently unknown, the release said.
The sheriff’s office said deputies and SWAT have been on scene and set up a perimeter in and around the motel. Hostage negotiators have been in contact with the suspect.
More than two hours after the first call to police, the hotel remained an “active hostage scene,” the sheriff’s office said.
