Miami vs. N.C. State: Will Wolfpack upset UM like it did Georgia Tech and Virginia?

No. 15 Miami (7-2) vs. N.C. State (5-4), Saturday, 3:30, ESPN

Latest line: Miami is favored by 15 1/2 points

The No. 15 Hurricanes started slow but ultimately took care of business against Syracuse. They won’t be able to afford a slow start against the Wolfpack. Although N.C. State is 5-4 and would appear to be outmatched in many categories, the feisty Wolfpack have already claimed unlikely victories over two of the best teams in the conference, Georgia Tech and Virginia. Miami will have to be on top of its game to prevent becoming the third big upset by N.C. State.

This game features two teams where no one knows exactly what to expect. The Hurricanes have shown they can beat good teams and lose to anyone. North Carolina State’s season was disappointing until an upset of Georgia Tech two weeks ago. Simply put, Miami is playing at home and is the better team. We’ll see if that carries the day. Having to end the season with road games against Virginia Tech and No. 22 Pittsburgh, the Hurricanes are well aware of the importance of this game and won’t blow the opportunity.

Keven Lerner, Assistant Sports Editor: Miami 31, N.C. State 27

Miami surprisingly is favored by 15 1/2 points, considering N.C. State has already beaten two of the top teams in the ACC in Georgia Tech and Virginia. The Wolfpack also has an explosive offense and are coming off a bye week. N.C. State’s defense, however, has struggled all season. The only ACC teams with worse defenses are Syracuse and Boston College. But with so much on the line for Miami, having to win its final three games to keep its slim playoff hopes alive, UM should avoid the upset.
