A small family foundation helping feed the hungry continues to experience a windfall because of Steelers fans.
More than $42,000 in donations has flooded the John S. Mulholland Family Foundation since the Steelers beat Baltimore to a clinch a spot in the AFC playoffs, board chairman Brian Mulholland said Thursday.
The Washington, D.C., foundation is the favorite charity of Ravens placekicker Tyler Loop, whose missed 44-yard field goal attempt as time expired Sunday night made him the target of a wave of online vitriol from Ravens fans.

To show their support for Loop, and in protest of his treatment, Steelers fans began donating $26.24 to the Mulholland foundation, a nod to the 26-24 final score. Ravens fans then joined the effort, donating $30 to signify Loop’s total of made field goals this season and $33 for his jersey number.
“I want to thank the fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore Ravens … and all of the people who have been so generous in showing acts of kindness for Tyler Loop and for the people we serve, the food insecure of Washington, D.C.,” Mulholland says in a video posted to the foundation’s website. “It’s been a remarkable journey with you.”
The foundation totaled $195,612 in net fundraising for all of 2024, according to its most recent tax filing, meaning it collected 21% of that total in three days this week.
The foundation serves 11 food pantries in Washington, D.C. Loop signed autographs the week before Thanksgiving in exchange for a donation to the foundation.
Steelers fan Emily Householder-Stacey of Canton, Ohio, found a Facebook post about the autograph signing and spread the word about the donation campaign on Reddit.
After news of her efforts became public, she was flooded with calls from media in both Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
“It’s been really cool. I’ll be honest, it’s been kind of fun for me,” Householder-Stacey said. “They say everybody gets 15 minutes of fame, and I can’t think of a better use of mine than raising a lot of money to feed hungry people.
“We actually had a member of our family pass away last weekend, and this has been a kind of a light in a dark time.”
She reached out to the foundation on Facebook and received a gracious note in return. It read: “Thank you; one of the better accidents of the internet, to be sure, which brought out some goodness in people hidden in today’s acrimonious bubble. God bless you. Keep working for our neighbors in need.”
