Monumental Sports Network to televise 18 Hampton University basketball games

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Eight Hampton University men’s basketball games and 10 women’s games will be televised by Monumental Sports Network this season. All of the contests are at home.

The Pirates’ men’s games on MNMT include the Nov. 6 home opener against Mid-Atlantic Christian, the Jan. 24 game against UNC-Wilmington and the Feb. 28 contest against Northeastern. Five games will be aired on MNMT2: Dec. 1 vs. Apprentice, Dec. 3 vs. Loyola (Maryland), Dec. 31 vs. Towson, Feb. 7 vs. William & Mary and Feb. 26 vs. Charleston.

The HU women’s games on MNMT will be Jan. 11 vs. Charleston, Jan. 25 vs. Elon, Feb. 1 vs. North Carolina A&T, Feb. 13 vs. Towson and March 7 vs. William & Mary. Five more games will be on MNMT2: Nov. 24 vs. Delaware State, Jan. 2 vs. Stony Brook, Jan. 23 vs. Campbell, Feb. 20 vs. Drexel and Feb. 22 vs. Monmouth.

Virginia Wesleyan’s men’s team is ranked 14th in the D3hoops.com national preseason poll. The Marlins went 22-7 overall and won the ECAC Championship Tournament last season. They will open this season Nov. 6 against Keene State at 5 p.m. at home in the TowneBank Tipoff Tournament.
The Christopher Newport women’s team is ranked No. 7 in the WBCA preseason coaches’ poll. The Captains went 26-2 last season.

W&M’s Leffler named CAA’s top rookie

William & Mary’s Ellie Leffler has been selected as the CAA Rookie of the Year and was one of six Tribe players to earn postseason honors.

W&M’s Mia Abbey, Ivey Crain and Molly Widderich made the All-CAA third team, while Leffler joined Abbey and Gwen Doughty on the all-rookie team.

W&M’s Felty earns CAA award

William & Mary freshman Eli Felty has been named the CAA Golfer of the Week.

The North Chesterfield native won the individual title at the Tribe’s fall finale, the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, on Sunday and Monday. He posted a 4-under total to earn a one-shot victory and become the first Tribe player to win medalist honors at a tournament since Matthew Fienstein in 2022.

The Tribe also won the team event for its first team tournament title since 2018.

Virginia Wesleyan’s Juliette Coffey has been selected as the ODAC Women’s Golfer of the Week. The junior from Woodbridge, England, placed 10th at the Chick-fil-A Invitational with rounds of 79 and 75.
No. 10 Florida edged top-ranked Virginia 3-2 in the match play final of the East Lake Cup on Wednesday in Atlanta. Florida’s Parker Bell held off a furious comeback by UVA’s Ben James, the PGATourU No. 1 player, to win the clinching match 1-up.
