SUFFOLK — A two-vehicle crash near an Interstate 664 on-ramp and overpass at to Bridge Road proved fatal Friday morning, police said.

A motorcycle traveling southbound on Bridge Road collided with a work truck traveling northbound and turning left onto the ramp of the I-664. Police were dispatched at about 6:30 a.m.

First responders arrived to the bike and its driver on fire. They attempted first aid and life support after extinguishing the flames.

The driver of the motorcycle, 35-year-old Wayne Ripson of Portsmouth, was pronounced dead in a hospital he was taken to by first responders, the Suffolk Police Department said in a statement.

The crash briefly caused a portion of Bridge Road to shut down. Police said the crash remains under investigation.
