Motorcyclist killed in collision with pickup truck in East Haddam

A Madison man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a pickup truck in East Haddam on Wednesday.

Stephen John Nichols, 63, was thrown from his BMW F650GS Dakar during the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Connecticut State Police.

A 51-year-old East Haddam man was heading south on Starr Road in a 2015 Toyota Tacoma just before 4:40 p.m. when he entered a “T-shaped” intersection and was trying to turn left onto Olmstead Road when he allegedly drove into the path of Nichols, who was heading west on East Haddam Colchester Turnpike, state police said. The motorcycle collided with the left front quarter panel of the Tacoma, throwing Nichols from the bike, according to state police.

The Tacoma driver did not report any injuries, state police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
