Music teacher accused of sex crimes against teen girl

A 30-year-old music teacher was arrested this week after a teenage girl and her parents reported to police that she had been sexually abused by him for the past two years, a probable cause affidavit said.

Rakesh Jhaveri, of Sunrise, is facing 10 counts of lewd and lascivious battery of a victim between 12 and 16 years old, Pembroke Pines Police said in a news release Thursday.

The girl, now 15, met Jhaveri when she was 8. He was a family friend of the victim and gave her private music lessons at a studio in Pembroke Pines, Music Legacies, according to the affidavit.

Jhaveri began giving the girl music lessons in 2023 and they kissed for the first time around then, the affidavit said. It escalated to sexual intercourse in the following months. The girl told police most of the times were at the music studio while he was supposed to be teaching her.

The girl and her parents went to the police station on Monday to report Jhaveri after her father found explicit messages between them on her laptop. Jhaveri admitted to detectives that he had engaged in sexual intercourse with the girl between 5 and 10 times and would message her “to assist her with any troubles she was experiencing,” according to the affidavit.

He has since been released from the jail after posting bond. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, court records show.
