New Hampshire keeps William & Mary winless on road

William & Mary’s road woes continued Saturday in Durham, New Hampshire, and will make a path to the FCS playoffs difficult at best.

The Tribe (4-4, 3-2 Coastal Athletic Association) lost 34-24 to New Hampshire (5-4, 3-2). W&M, 4-0 at Zable Stadium, is 0-4 away from Williamsburg.

Dual-threat quarterback Matt Vezza shined for the Wildcats, completing 17 of 23 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns and carrying 15 times for 99 yards. Myles Thomason led UNH with 21 rushes for 130 yards and a score, and Caleb Burke had 153 yards and two touchdowns on six catches.

W&M dual threat Tyler Hughes had his usual effective day, running for three touchdowns and 74 yards on 14 carries and completing 19 of 24 passes for 204 yards.

Rashad Raymond supplemented him with 10 carries for 68 yards, and Deven Thompson caught two passes for 83 yards.

After Hughes’ 28-yard touchdown run tied the score at 14 with seven minutes to go in the second quarter, UNH drove 67 yards on 13 plays and took a 17-14 lead on Nick Reed’s 26-yard field goal with 19 seconds remaining before halftime.

Two Vezza TD passes in the third quarter put the Wildcats ahead 31-21.

Keegan Shackford’s 27-yard field goal with 12:38 left in the fourth pulled the Tribe to 31-24, but Reed’s 33-yarder with eight minutes left gave W&M too deep a hole to escape.
