New Haven men’s basketball earns first-ever Division 1 win

The University of New Haven men’s basketball team celebrated its first-ever Division I win on Monday night, beating UMass Lowell, 73-67 on the road.

Junior guard Jabri Fitzpatrick led the way with 23 points and added six rebounds. Sophomore guard Najimi George, of Bridgeport, scored 17 and also grabbed six boards, and senior guard Kheni Briggs added 11 points.

The Chargers played their first-ever game last week against UConn at Gampel Pavilion, putting up a good fight in a 79-55 loss. They then lost 71-53 at Columbia and against Penn State, 87-43, at home, the first time a power conference school had played at the Hazell Center.
