A New Jersey man is accused of using Snapchat to send and obtain sexually explicit images from a child in Connecticut who was under 13 years old before traveling to the state to allegedly sexually assault the minor and providing them with cocaine.
A federal grand jury in New Haven returned an indictment on Aug. 5 charging Miguel Francisco Guzman, 30, of Woodbridge, New Jersey, with one count of enticement of a minor and one count of attempted enticement of a minor, charges that, if convicted, carry a mandatory minimum term of 10 years in prison, and one count of distribution of a controlled substance to a person under age 21, which carries a mandatory minimum term of one year in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Guzman, who has been detained since his arrest on Aug. 12, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas O. Farrish in Hartford on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Court records show that, in March 2025, Guzman allegedly began messaging on Snapchat with a child under the age of 13 in Connecticut.
Guzman allegedly solicited sexually explicit images from the minor and sent sexually explicit images of himself to the minor, according to court records. He then allegedly traveled to Connecticut to engage in sexual conduct with the minor and allegedly provided cocaine to the minor, court records show.
Investigators alleged that a court-authorized search of Guzman’s Snapchat account revealed attempts by him “to solicit sexually explicit images and sexual encounters with other minors between March and May 2025,” according to court records.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of local police in Connecticut and the Woodbridge (New Jersey) Police Department, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
