A Newport News man was arrested for his connection with an armed robbery involving four french bulldogs, according to a press release from Caroline County’s Sheriff’s Office.
On Nov. 23, Caroline County deputies went to the parking lot of the Ladysmith Food Lion, after hearing the seller who arranged to meet with a buyer for a French Bulldog confronted the seller at gunpoint and stole all four dogs and a gun the seller had in their vehicle and left.
The value of each bulldog is about $4,000 each.
Ronald Gaylord James, 37, has been arrested in Hampton after an investigation and collaboration with four additional police and sheriff’s departments. James was taken into custody Nov. 25 and all four stolen bulldogs were recovered and unharmed.They are now being held by Hampton Police Animal Control before being returned to their owner.
James was taken to Hampton Adult Intake and is being held without bond. He was charged with possession of a firearm after being previously convicted a felony, armed robbery, use or display of a firearm in the commission of a felony, grand larceny of the dogs, grand larceny of a firearm, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Additional charges are also expected.
