NJ highway covered in peanut M&Ms after tractor-trailer crash

A crash between two tractor-trailers in New Jersey left a highway covered in packages of peanut M&Ms late Monday night.

The collision occurred around 10:17 p.m. on Route 80 in Warren County, according to Knowlton Township Fire and Rescue.

The tractor-trailer hauling the candy rear-ended one that was parked on the westbound shoulder, “tearing open both box trailers and spilling cargo over the roadway,” officials said.

Images from the scene show the side of the M&M truck completely torn away, with dozens of boxes and hundreds of bags of candy strewn across the highway.

A fire was initially reported but none was found.

Westbound lanes were shut down while the drivers were checked out by EMS. Both refused medical treatment and neither was hospitalized.

Traffic was detoured until after midnight until cleanup was completed and fire crews cleared the scene.

It’s unknown what happened to the candy.
