No. 15 Virginia Wesleyan men earn fourth victory in row

Virginia Wesleyan (5-1), ranked 15th nationally by d3hoops.com, ran its winning streak to four games with a 74-56 triumph Sunday over Dickinson in the CNU Holiday INNvitational at Freeman Center.

Omari DeVeaux scored 20 points, and Amari Moorer had 16 points, nine rebounds and two blocks for the Marlins. Both had three assists.

Malcolm Velmar had eight points and six assists, and Miles Hancock had eight points and seven rebounds.

Cole Cosby and Matt Mahoney scored 10 each for the Red Devils (1-6), who hit barely more than a third of their shots.

Christopher Newport 80, Pfeiffer 66: Zyir Baskerville, who had played sparingly recently, poured in 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Captains (5-2) beat the Falcons (4-5) to close the CNU Holiday INNvitational.

Toa Hollenbeck had 18 points, Tyson Henderson 11 and Ethan Ward nine for the Captains, who outrebounded Pfeiffer 53-35.
Doug Smith scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting for Pfeiffer, which led 54-48 before CNU reeled off 15 consecutive points in about 4 1/2 minutes to go ahead 63-54 with seven minutes remaining.

Bryant & Stratton 101, Pitt Community College 60: The Bobcats improved to 4-2 with a home victory in Atlantic Shores’ gym.

No. 20 Texas Tech 76, Wyoming 72: JT Toppin scored 27 points and had nine rebounds as the Red Raiders (6-2) extended their nonconference home winning streak to 44 games in Lubbock. LeJuan Watts added 19 points and Christian Anderson 15 for the 6-2 Red Raiders.

Leland Walker had 28 points and was the only player in double figures for Wyoming (6-2). The Cowboys lost 96-49 in Lubbock last season, but the rematch included eight ties and seven lead changes.

American 92, Longwood 66: Greg Jones had 18 points and hit all nine of his free throws as the Eagles (5-4) beat the Lancers (4-5) in Washington. Matt Mayock finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Geoff Sprouse made three 3-pointers and scored 16.
The Lancers were led by Johan Nziemi with 12 points and six rebounds. Redd Thompson had 11 points and Jacoi Hutchinson 10.
