No. 2 Arizona proves too tall a task for Norfolk State

Motiejus Krivas scored 20 points, Koa Peat added 16 and No. 2 Arizona overpowered Norfolk State 98-61 Saturday at McKale Center in Tucson.

The Wildcats (7-0) are one of the tallest teams in Division I and used it to their advantage against the Spartans (4-5). Coming off a 30-point win over Denver on Monday, Arizona shot 56% from the floor, had a 58-24 advantage in the lane and shot 32 of 46 on free throws. The Wildcats also had 17 more rebounds than the Sparatns and 20 assists on 32 baskets. Anthony Dell’Orso added 16 points and Krivas shot 7 of 8 from the floor.

Anthony McComb III led NSU with 19 points as coach Robert Jones’ team began a long stretch of away games.

The Spartans scored a school Division I-record 136 points in a blowout over Virginia University of Lynchburg in their last game and managed to keep up with Arizona early. But as the first half wore on, the Wildcats wore them down, stretching the lead with a flurry of inside baskets and three-point plays.

Randolph 89, Regent 63: Green Run High alum Trey Miller had 14 points and 12 rebounds to help the visiting WildCats (3-3) outplay the Royals (2-5). Elijah Cox added 13 points for Randolph.

For Regent, Darrin Clark scored 23 and Antoine Brown 16.

No. 25 Indiana 100, Bethune-Cookman 56: Tucker DeVries scored 12 of his 20 points in the first half and Lamar Wilkerson added 18 for the host Hoosiers, who are 7-0 for the first time since last making the NCAA Tournament following the 2022-23 season and 50 years after posting the last perfect record in men’s Division I basketball. DeVries also had five assists and five 3-pointers.

Jakobi Heady had 15 points and eight rebounds for B-CU (2-6).

Drake 84, Georgia Tech 74: Jalen Quinn scored a career-high 31 points and Okku Federiko scored 20 for the Bulldogs (5-3) in the consolation game of the Emerald Coast Classic in Destin, Florida. Akai Fleming scored 15 points for the Yellow Jackets (5-3).

George Mason 82, James Madison 66: Kory Mincy scored 25 points for the Patriots (8-0), who overcame a seven-point first-half deficit to the Dukes (5-4) and outscored them 50-31 after intermission before 5,262 in Fairfax.

Riley Allenspach had 17 points and nine rebounds for George Mason, while Masai Troutman had 16 points and Fatt Hill had 15. The Patriots shot 55% (24 of 44) and hit 28 of 36 free throws, while the Dukes cooled in the second half hit 23 of 62 shots (37%) for the game.

Bradley Douglas led JMU with 22 points, but he was ejected in the final minute after a technical foul.

Longwood 65, Maine 61: Jaylen Benard and Elijah Tucker each scored 13 points for the Lancers (4-4) at the Capital Thanksgiving Classic in Washington. Tucker shot 5 of 6 from the field and added five rebounds.

Mekhi Gray led the Black Bears (0-8) with 16 points.

Radford 102, Notre Dame of Maryland 75: Mari Jordan scored 20 points and Frederik Erichsen had 14 as the Highlanders (3-6) beat the Division II Gators.

Central Florida 82, VMI 57: Jamichael Stillwell had 21 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and three steals for his third double-double of the season, Jordan Burks added 14 points, and UCF won in Orlando.

Themus Fulks added 11 points, five rebounds and five assists for UCF (7-1), which had a 57-38 edge in rebounding. Mario Tatum Jr., with 19 points, was the only double-digit scorer for the Keydets (3-7).

Army 81, Manhattan 78, OT: Ryan Curry scored 26 points for the Black Knights (3-6), including two free throws with 9 seconds left as they edged the Jaspers (3-5) in West Point, New York.

Fraser Roxburgh scored 18 for Manhattan, which turned the ball over on its final possession.

Southeastern Louisiana 69, Navy 65: Peter Hemschemeier scored 19 points off of the bench to lead the Lions (3-5) past the Midshipmen (4-5) at the multiteam event in UNC Wilmington’s Trask Arena.

Austin Benigni finished with 24 points and two steals for Navy. Cam Cole added 13 points and two steals.

South Dakota 80, Air Force 63: Led by Isaac Bruns’ 22 points, the Coyotes (5-3) defeated the Falcons (3-6) in Rapid City, South Dakota. Caleb Walker led Air Force with 21 points and Kam Sanders scored 15.
