No. 3 Duke knocks off No. 1 Michigan; Hokies end Wake’s streak

Cameron Boozer scored 18 points as No. 3 Duke handed another neutral-site loss to fellow blueblood Michigan, knocking off the top-ranked Wolverines 68-63 Saturday night in a raucous possible Final Four preview in Washington.

The Wolverines had won 11 straight and replaced Arizona atop the AP Top 25 this week. The now-fourth-ranked Wildcats won at No. 2 Houston earlier Saturday, making it the first time since Feb. 8, 2025, that the teams ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the poll lost on the same day.

With his dad, former Duke and NBA star Carlos Boozer, in attendance, Cameron Boozer hit a 3-pointer with 1:55 left to give the Blue Devils a 64-58 lead. Isaiah Evans added 14 points for the Blue Devils (25-2), who could return to Capital One Arena in just more than a month for the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

In the programs’ first meeting in 12 years, Duke improved to 23-8 against Michigan and 7-0 on neutral courts, a series that includes the 1992 national title game. Michigan hasn’t beaten Duke since Dec. 6, 2009 in Ann Arbor.

Yaxel Lendeborg scored 21 points for the Wolverines (25-2), who had not lost since a home defeat by three points to Wisconsin on Jan. 10.

Virginia Tech 82, Wake Forest 63: Neoklis Avdalas and Tobi Lawal each scored 17 points, and Virginia Tech pulled away in the second half at Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies (18-10, 7-8) shot 51% from the field and led 43-33 at halftime, snapping a two-game skid while handing the Demon Deacons their first loss in four games. Lawal finished 7 of 11 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds, while Amani Hansberry added 13 points and Ben Hammond finished with 12 points and five assists. Avdalas had seven assists.

Wake Forest (14-13, 5-9) trimmed the deficit to eight early in the second half, but Virginia Tech answered with a decisive run. A 3-pointer by Avdalas sparked a stretch that included back-to-back 3s from Hansberry and Jailen Bedford, pushing the lead to 61-45 with 11:25 remaining. The margin never dropped below 16 the rest of the way.

Christian Gurdak provided a key lift off the bench, scoring 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting.

Juke Harris led Wake Forest with 16 points, Tre’Von Spillers added 12 points and seven rebounds and Cooper Schwieger scored 10 points.

The 19-point margin marked Virginia Tech’s largest ACC victory since February 2024.

No. 16 North Carolina 77, Syracuse 64: Henri Veesaar returned to the starting lineup and scored 19 points in UNC’s road win.

Seth Trimble and Luka Bogavac each had 13 points and Zayden High added nine for North Carolina (21-6, 9-5).

J.J. Starling led Syracuse (15-13, 6-9) with 22 points. The Orange were just 3 of 17 from 3-point range.

No. 21 Louisville 87, Georgia Tech 70: Mikel Brown Jr. scored 19 points, including seven during a 17-2 run midway through the second half, that helped propel Louisville (20-7, 9-5) past Georgia Tech (11-17, 2-13).

The host Cardinals never trailed, but allowed the Yellow Jackets to get within 44-35 just after halftime.

Baye Ndongo had 17 points for Georgia Tech, which dropped its ninth consecutive game.

Florida State 70, Clemson 65: Robert McCray V matched his season-high with 29 points, including Florida State’s final 10, and the streaking Seminoles won at Clemson.

Lajae Jones scored 13 points for the Seminoles (14-13, 7-7), who have won seven of their past nine games.

Ace Buckner scored 15 points, Dillon Hunter 13 and RJ Godfrey 12 for Clemson (20-8, 10-5), which has lost four in a row.

Pittsburgh 73, Notre Dame 68: Roman Siulepa scored 22 points and Nojus Indrusaitis added a career-high 17 as Pittsburgh (10-17, 3-11) held off Notre Dame (10-17, 3-11).

The Panthers shot 45% from the field and made 11 of 24 from 3-point range.

Cole Certa led the visiting Irish with 16 points.

SMU 94, Boston College 70: Jermaine O’Neal Jr. scored 16 points, Samet Yigitoglu and BJ Edwards both added 15 and SMU won in Dallas.

Ebuka Okorie continued a stellar freshman season for the Cardinal (16-11, 5-9), scoring 17 points and tallying 13 rebounds for his first double-double.
