VIRGINIA BEACH — Green Run senior running back Charles Jackson III was determined to send Stallions fans home with a win on homecoming.
But for a half, Bayside tried to play spoilers.
The second half, however, would be all Green Run and all Jackson as the Old Dominion commit rushed for 263 yards and two touchdowns to lead the No. 4 Stallions to a 38-14 win over the No. 13 Marlins.
Green Run (8-0) has won 58 games in a row over Beach District opponents and 51 straight during the regular season. And the Stallions pretty much wrapped up their fifth consecutive district title. They play First Colonial (1-7) next week before a bye, then finish the season against Ocean Lakes (2-5).
“It’s a great feeling that we control our own destiny. Not a lot of teams can say that,” Green Run coach Brandon Williams said, referring to possibly playing at home throughout much of the playoffs. “If we take care of business, everything has to come through Green Run. We look forward to that.”

But Williams said none of that would have been possible without Jackson.
“He’s our back. We run through him,” he said. “The way he ran that ball tonight, I’m proud of him. If he didn’t come out and run like he did, it’s a whole different ballgame.”
Following a blocked field-goal attempt on Bayside’s first possession, the Stallions took the early lead on Luke Ashcraft’s 29-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Clark.
Bayside answered on Kam Kirby’s 45-yard touchdown pass to Breon Hardnett, but the extra-point try failed.
Jackson scored on a 2-yard touchdown run to give the Stallions a 14-6 lead, but the Marlins answered with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Kirby to Hardnett again. Bayside tied the game on the two-point conversion on Kirby’s pass to J’Lahni Spears.

Green Run kicker Jonathan Thompkins’ 28-yard field goal gave the Stallions 17-14 halftime lead.
The second half would be all Green Run.
Jackson started the third quarter with a 49-yard run. That was followed by a 25-yard touchdown.
“That was big because it was definitely a close game,” Jackson said. “We knew we had to score and do what we had to do to get the win.”
After a defensive stop and Bayside punt, Devin Miller returned it 43 yards for a touchdown. The Stallions held the Marlins scoreless in the second half.
“They do a good job over there at Bayside. They put up a lot of points, and we see why,” Williams said. “We had to make some second-half adjustments. We got to the quarterback a little bit, got him rattled and made some big plays to get them off the field.”
