Norfolk State was highly competitive for the third straight week, but still couldn’t stop its losing streak from reaching nine games.
Raymond Moore III passed for 183 yards and two touchdowns and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard run with 6:07 left as Morgan State pulled out a 35-28 victory in the Spartans’ home finale Saturday at Dick Price Stadium.
The Bears (4-7, 1-3) snapped a three-game slide with their first MEAC victory, while NSU dropped to 1-10, 0-4.
The loss spoiled a huge game from Spartans running back Kevon King, a former Oscar Smith High star who rushed for 189 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. X’Zavion Evans, another Chesapeake native, also surpassed the century mark with 107 yards on 15 carries.
NSU quarterback Vinson Berry, who replaced the injured Otto Kuhns, completed 17 of 31 passes for 174 yards with two touchdowns, but had three turnovers. He threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. Wide receiver JJ Evans had seven catches for 98 yards and a touchdown.
The Spartans will close out their season against Howard on Saturday at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
