Norfolk State’s women breezed past Delaware State 69-53 Saturday in Dover as all five NSU starters scored in double digits.
Cire Worley had 13 points, Jasha Clinton and LeAire Nicks 12 each, Anjanae Richardson 11 and Da’Brya Clark 10 for the Spartans (7-11, 2-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Clark had 13 rebounds and six assists, and Worley and Richardson had five assists each.
NSU held DSU (3-15, 0-3) to 33% (20 of 61) from the floor, though Jermesha Frierson had 19 points and Liliana Harrison 12.
The Spartans outscored the Hornets 17-4 in the second quarter to go ahead 39-23.
Georgia Southern 77, Old Dominion 60: Kishyah Anderson had 22 points and nine rebounds for Georgia Southern, which took control in the second quarter against ODU in Statesboro.
The Eagles (12-4, 5-1 Sun Belt), building on the momentum of Wednesday’s victory over James Madison, also got 23 points and eight rebounds from Destiny Garrett and 18 points from Warhill High graduate McKenna Eddings, a transfer from Auburn. Georgia Southern outrebounded the Monarchs 44-31.
For ODU (10-7, 2-3), Simone Cunningham had 15 points and seven rebounds. Simaru Fields had 15 points, four assists and two steals but hit just 6 of 18 shots. Riley Stack had 13 points and six rebounds.
ODU led 14-11 but fell behind 18-15 by the first quarter’s end and 35-23 at halftime. The Monarchs began the third quarter on a 5-0 surge to pull to 35-28 but got no closer.
Georgia State 72, James Madison 70, OT: The Panthers (7-10, 2-3 Sun Belt) forced overtime in Atlanta on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Crystal Henderson, then scored the winning basket on Cheyenne Holloman’s layup with four-tenths of a second remaining off a Henderson pass.
Henderson led GSU, which earned a season split with JMU, paced four Panthers in double digits with 16 points.
The Dukes (11-7, 3-3), who led for the great majority of the game and 34-23 at halftime, got 21 points, seven rebounds and three steals from Peyton McDaniel, who fouled out in the final minute. Princess Anne High alumna Zakiya Stephenson and Lake Taylor graduate Ashanti Barnes each had 11 points, and Barnes had 14 rebounds.
Hollins 69, Virginia Wesleyan 63, OT: The Marlins (8-5, 2-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) rallied from 13 points behind late in the third quarter to force overtime in Roanoke, but Hollins (11-2, 3-1) prevailed behind four double-digit scorers, including Jacorra Russell with 18 points.
For VWU, Bre Robinson had 20 points and five rebounds, while Brianna Long had 14 points and 10 rebounds. But the Marlins couldn’t overcome 35.1% field-goal shooting (20 of 57).
Long’s jumper with 24 seconds left in regulation capped a 6-0 run for a 59-59 tie after four quarters.
