NORFOLK — The new superintendent will start work later than expected because of a delay related to the processing of his licensure by state officials, according to Norfolk Public Schools.
Jeff Rose, who was hired by the school board last month, was slated to be at work Monday. The school district, in announcing the unspecified delay to his start date, said the slow down was “not the result of any inaction” by leadership in Norfolk or Rose.
His complete application for Virginia superintendent licensure through the Virginia Department of Education was submitted in early December. The school district said state officials found no deficiencies in the application paperwork, but formal action from the Virginia Board of Education had yet to occur.

A legal review requested by the School Board found that Rose was not permitted to begin work prior to being formally licensed.
