Old Dominion University announced it recently launched MonarchSphere, an artificial intelligence incubator, in partnership with Google.
The AI incubator, powered by Google Cloud, aims to be an ecosystem that connects ODU faculty and students with industry partners to solve real-world challenges.
The collaboration shows the university is not only embracing change, but leading it, ODU President Brian O. Hemphill said in a release.
“This partnership marks a defining moment for Old Dominion University by demonstrating how a forward-focused, future-ready institution can harness the power of the Google Cloud and AI to reimagine learning, accelerate discovery and expand opportunity for students and communities across higher education and beyond,” he said.
Chrysoula Malogianni, senior associate vice president for ODU’s Digital Innovation, pointed to several uses for the new technology, including cybersecurity, research, career track preparation and planning, and grant applications.
“Over the past few months, we have been co-developing tools, infrastructure and research applications that are transforming the way we teach, learn, operate and innovate in research,” she said.
The collaboration, according to the announcement, also introduces Google Career certificates to degree and continuing education programs.
