Old Dominion announced via social media the signing of several players.
Among them are former NC State cornerback Jivan Baly of Norcross, Georgia, former Maryland tight end Leon Haughton of Richmond and offensive lineman Mason Thrush from Hutchinson Community College, a traditionally strong junior-college program. He’s from Maize, Kansas.
Baly, 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds, had nine tackles in 2025. Former Benedictine Prep star Haughton, 6-5 and 231, made four catches for 43 yards and a touchdown.
ODU also signed former North Alabama offensive lineman Raykwon Goldthwaite (6-8, 305) of Birmingham, Alabama, and former Mississippi State linebacker Montrell Chapman (6-3, 230) of Batesville, Mississippi. The Monarchs also gained former Florida Atlantic backup kicker Andrew Nelms of Marietta, Georgia. Chapman had one tackle in 2025.
UVA captures more commitments
Virginia gained a commitment from former Central Michigan receiver Tyson Davis (5-10, 175), his representative Danny Ervin confirmed to The Daily Progress of Charlottesville. He had 25 catches for 323 yards and two TDs in 2025.
Former UAB defensive tackle Jonathan Allen (6-2, 290) is expected to transfer to UVA, his agent Harrison Novick told The Daily Progress. Allen, from Birmingham, had 34 tackles and two sacks in 2025.
Former Menchville player commits to JMU
JMU gained a commitment from Terell Thomas, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound edge defender from Newport News who played for Menchville High, Emory & Henry and then Washburn, a Division II school in Kansas.
Report: Harper likely headed to App State
Appalachian State is expected to hire Justin Harper as its wide receivers coach, according to CBS Sports.
The former Virginia Tech and Baltimore Ravens receiver spent the last two seasons as James Madison’s wide receivers coach, helping the Sun Belt champion Dukes rank ninth nationally in scoring. Before that, he was Old Dominion’s tight ends coach.
Former Green Run star Keylen “Brodie” Adams announced he will return to Virginia Tech. He’s looking to become a factor; his only catch for the Hokies was a 14-yarder in 2024, and he had a 47-yard carry that year as well.
Virginia Tech is seeking to hire Nick Perry to coach defensive backs, CBS Sports reported, citing sources. The former Alabama and NFL safety worked in the NFL for four years with Seattle and Atlanta.
New VMI head coach Ashley Ingram is hiring former Citadel head coach Brent Thompson to be his offensive coordinator, according to FCS Nation Radio.

NSU men repeat as Showcase champs
For the second consecutive season, the Norfolk State men’s team captured the HBCU Showcase title in New York.
The Spartans totaled 119.5 points. Virginia Union finished second with 77.5, followed by Howard (70), Coppin State (57), and Prairie View A&M (47).
NSU thrived in the field events. Jaymes Saunders won the long jump at 7.52 meters, while Atrell Williams won the shot put at 16.14 meters. Kristopher Stephens won the triple jump at 15.12 meters.
Shamar Heard led NSU on the track, winning the 400 meters in 48.54 seconds. Daniel Mathenge placed second in the 3,000 in 8:33.14 and fourth in the mile (4:20.11). Jemmel Green earned a bronze medal in the mile by clocking 4:18.80.
In women’s competition, Howard won with 176, followed by Hampton in second with 126. NSU and Prairie View A&M shared third at 49.
Brooklyn Robinson delivered the Spartans’ lone victory on the track, winning the 60-meter hurdles in 8.31 seconds. Freshman Emma Svetiev won the pole vault by clearing 3.20 meters.

W&M’s Tully wins on high bar in West Point
Luke Tully won the high-bar title to lead six William & Mary athletes during the individual event finals at the West Point Open in New York.
Tully claimed his crown with a 13.15, while Ricky Pizem placed third with a 12.8.
Pizem also finished sixth on vault (13.35) and was one of three Tribe gymnasts who competed in multiple events during the finals. Gavin Zborowski placed fifth on pommel horse (13.15) and eighth on high bar (10.6), while Nicholas Kosarikov was sixth on high bar (12.6) and seventh on parallel bars (12.15).
Also competing in the finals were Evan Wilkins on floor (12.05) and Connor Barrow on vault (13.25), who both placed seventh.

ODU splits first two matches
Old Dominion completed a 1-1 season-opening indoor homestand with a 5-2 loss to Yale at Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. The Monarchs beat Georgetown 6-1 Saturday.
No. 2 player Adam Majchrzak and No. 5 Aryan Saleh earned ODU’s singles victories against Yale. Majchrzak and Thomas Nelson won at the top doubles spot.
No. 5 Virginia, having already begun a trip to the Lone Star State by knocking off No. 3 TCU, defeated No. 2 Texas 4-1 Sunday in Austin.

DC game sets women’s attendance record
The Professional Women’s Hockey League Takeover Tour game at Capital One Arena in Washington was the highest-attended game at a U.S. arena in women’s hockey history. Monumental Sports Network broadcasted the game.
A record-setting crowd of 17,228 attended the New York Sirens’ 2-1 victory over the Montréal Victoire, surpassing the previous record of 16,014 fans set during a PWHL game between the Seattle Torrent and Minnesota Frost at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena on Nov. 28, 2025.
