ODU signs ex-Washington State QB
Old Dominion announced the signing of 6-5 former Washington State quarterback Jaxon Potter. From Huntington Beach, California, began the 2025 season as the Cougars’ starter but lost the job after being intercepted three times by North Texas.
He threw two passes in 2024 as a backup. In 2025, he was 67 of 95 for 604 yards, four touchdowns and those three interceptions. He also had five carries for 8 yards.
Vanderbilt landed a commitment from former Old Dominion wide receiver Ja’Cory Thomas, who had 41 receptions, 719 yards and five touchdowns in 2025.
Ex-Missouri QB picks UVA
Virginia gained a commitment from quarterback Beau Pribula after his weekend visit to Charlottesville.
Pribula started during the regular season for Missouri, though the 6-foot-2, 211-pounder opted out of the Tigers’ Gator Bowl loss to UVA. He also visited Tennessee, Washington and Georgia Tech among others.
The former Penn State backup thrived with Missouri. He completed 67.4% of his passes for 1,941 yards and 11 touchdowns, despite nine interceptions. He also rushed for 297 yards and 6 touchdowns.
With 2025 starter Chandler Morris denied a seventh year of eligibility by the NCAA and Danny Kaelin having committed to Nebraska, Pribula figures to be a strong candidate to start in 2026.
Hokies gain promising tight end
Virginia Tech continued its pipeline of former Penn State players, landing tight end Luke Reynolds, a former 5-star recruit. Also, linebacker Kaleb Spencer said he’d return for the Hokies.
Former Virginia Tech quarterback Pop Watson committed to Massachusetts, meaning he’ll return to play for a school in his home state. He went to Springfield Central High, where his father is a longtime coach. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Productive DLs commit to UVA
Virginia gained a pledge from former East Carolina defensive lineman Zion Wilson, according to On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos. Wilson had 42 tackles and seven sacks in 2025.
The Cavaliers also landed edge defender Jamond Mathis from Kent State, according to Wahoos247. Mathis had six sacks, defended three passes and made 28 tackles in 2025.
JMU adds players
James Madison gained a commitment from Kaedin Massey, a 6-foot-8, 315-pound offensive lineman transferring from Kansas State. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
New coach Billy Napier’s Dukes also landed former Charlotte punter Andrew Bennett and Texas State safety transfer Javis Mynatt, who made 32 tackles in 2025.

NSU’s McComb, Newton gain MEAC honors
Norfolk State senior guard Anthony McComb III was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while freshman guard Adrean Newton earned Rookie of the Week honors.
McComb scored 23 points in NSU’s 66-64 win Saturday at Delaware State. He added three rebounds, two assists and two steals while connecting on 7 of 8 shots from the field, including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc, and 6 of 8 free throws. Newton, from Maury High, scored the go-ahead basket with 2.8 seconds remaining and finished with four points, four assists, two rebounds and one steal.
CNU climbs to No. 17
Christopher Newport (14-3) rose three spots to No. 17 in the new d3hoops.com poll. Randolph-Macon (12-1) dropped three positions to No. 5 after last week’s 62-60 loss at Averett, while Mary Washington (13-1) climbed one spot to No. 6.
CNU junior Toa Hollenbeck, a Grassfield High graduate, was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week. He had 18 points, six rebounds and two assists in CNU’s only game of the week, a 68-65 home victory over then-No. 24 Johns Hopkins.

NSU’s Clark gains MEAC weekly honor
Norfolk State junior guard Da’Brya Clark earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The Baltimore native recorded five rebounds, three steals and one block in a 63-60 loss to Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday. Clark followed with a career-high 13 rebounds, plus three steals and a block, in a 69-53 win at Delaware State on Saturday. She also scored 28 points across the two contests.
Lakeland grad honored with Chowan
Chowan junior forward Nyeisha Savage, from Lakeland High, was named the Defensive Player of the Week in Division II Conference Carolinas.
In victories by the Hawks against Mount Olive and North Greenville, she totaled 18 rebounds, seven blocks and a steal. Her 93 rebounds through 11 games ranked third in the conference, and her 22 blocks rank second.
Big South honors Longwood guard
Longwood guard Malea Brown was named a Big South Co-Player of the Week, sharing the award with UNC Asheville guard Nia Green.
Brown, a graduate student from Putnam Hall, Florida, totaled 38 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, five steals and three blocks in victories at Charleston Southern and UNC Asheville. She shot 46.4% from the field (13 of 28) and 80% from the free-throw line (8 of 10).

Former ODU star wins Melbourne qualifying opener
Former Old Dominion standout Yuliia Starodubtseva opened Australian Open qualifying in Melbourne with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 victory over France’s Alice Tubello, the world’s No. 431 player.
Starodubtseva, ranked 111th, needs two more victories to ensure a spot in the main draw. The two-time Conference USA Player of the Year next will face No. 157 Despina Papamichail of Greece, who ousted American Sachia Vickery 6-3, 7-5.
