NORFOLK — Old Dominion will face South Florida in the Cure Bowl in Orlando, Florida, on Dec. 17, a university source confirmed Thursday.
The 5 p.m. game will mark the first meeting between the Monarchs (9-3) and USF (9-3), which finished tied for fourth in the American Athletic Conference.
On3.com first reported the matchup in the Cure Bowl, which is dedicated to finding a cure for cancer. The game will be played at Camping World Stadium, formerly the Tangerine Bowl and the Florida Citrus Bowl.
ODU has won five straight since a two-game midseason skid against Marshall and Sun Belt East Division champion James Madison.
The Bulls finished the regular season with three wins in four games, including a convincing 52-3 home victory over Rice in the finale. USF coach Alex Golesh on Monday was named the head coach at Auburn.
The bowl appearance will be the Monarchs’ third in five seasons under coach Ricky Rahne. ODU lost to Western Kentucky in the 2023 Famous Toastery Bowl and to Tulsa in the 2021 Myrtle Beach Bowl.
ODU’s lone bowl victory came in the 2016 Bahamas Bowl, over Eastern Michigan.
