Just three months after he was hired, an Orange County deputy was arrested Wednesday in Polk County for soliciting prostitution from an undercover detective.
Jabez Lowe, who was hired as a recruit in June and was enrolled in the law enforcement academy, has since been fired, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Lowe met with the undercover detective just after midnight Wednesday after exchanging text messages and phone calls, and had $80 with him to pay for 15 minutes of sex. He was arrested two minutes later.
“At the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, we are committed to ensuring that those who serve the community as deputies follow the laws they are responsible to uphold,” Sheriff John Mina said in a statement emailed to reporters.
Investigators said Lowe told them “this was his first time doing this and he knows he made a mistake,” an arrest affidavit shared by the agency said.
No other details have been released, and records in Polk County court or the county jail were not immediately available Thursday.
