A man was seriously injured when he was hit by a vehicle in Norwalk on Tuesday evening.

The crash was reported in the 600 block of Connecticut Avenue at 5:50 p.m. when police received multiple 911 calls about a pedestrian being struck by a motorist, according to Lt. Tomasz Podgorski of the Norwalk Police Department.

Police as well as crews from the Norwalk Fire Department and Norwalk Hospital EMS responded to the scene and found a man in the westbound lanes, Podgorski said. He was given emergency medical care before being taken in an ambulance to Norwalk Hospital with serious injuries, according to Podgorski. His condition was not immediately clear.

Podgorski said police are still working to confirm the identity of the victim.

A preliminary investigation found that the pedestrian was walking south across the westbound lanes of Connecticut Avenue, outside of a designated crosswalk, when he was struck by a vehicle, according to Podgorski. The driver remained at the scene.
