Police are investigating the circumstances that led to an infant in Willimantic landing in a hospital in critical condition.
Police began their investigation on Sunday evening upon learning that the child had suffered critical injuries, according to Lt. Joshua Clark of the Willimantic Police Department.
The infant was taken to Windham Hospital following a report from the parents that the child had experienced a fall the prior evening, Clark said. The infant was evaluated and transferred to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford where the child was listed in critical condition, according to Clark.
Clark said authorities are “actively working” to determine what circumstances led to the child’s injuries. The incident is tied to an investigation on Church Street where authorities were at a home on Monday. Members of the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad could be seen at the home.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and no additional information is being released at this time,” Clark said in a statement issued Tuesday.
“This information is preliminary and based on what is known at this time.”
