Police have charged a teenage adult in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist in Hartford in April.
Michael Grady, 18, of Hartford was arrested Wednesday by the Hartford Police Department’s Greater Hartford Auto Theft Task Force, according to Lt. Aaron Boisvert.
He faces charges of reckless driving, evading responsibility involving death and operating without a license. His bail was set at $150,000, Boisvert said.
The charges come after officers responded to the area of 2222 Main St. on April 7 just after 7:30 p.m. on the report of a bicyclist being struck by a vehicle, according to Boisvert. Emergency crews found the bicyclist in the road unresponsive.
First responders performed life-saving measures until medics arrived and took him to a hospital, where he died, Boisvert said. He was identified as 42-year-old Nicholas Thompson of Hartford.
According to Boisvert, investigators found that Thompson was heading south on Main Street where he was rear ended by a driver. The motorist then struck a parked vehicle, disabling his own vehicle, Boisvert said. Multiple occupants then fled the scene on foot, according to Boisvert.
The police department’s Crime Scene Division responded and assumed the investigation, which Boisvert said led to Grady being identified as the driver. Investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest.
