Key Food Stores, an independently owned supermarket, is set to open its first location in Danbury, officials said.
The new store location will be located at the former Rite Aid location on Germantown Road.
“We’re excited to welcome Anthony and Key Food to Danbury,” said Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves. “We recognize the investment he’s making, and look forward to seeing this vibrant market create more than 30 new jobs for our residents and expand shopping options for the neighborhood.”
“Key Food may be a regional name, but the new Danbury store is truly local. The Danbury location will carry forward Key Food’s mission to provide communities with products, services, and resources that satisfy, nourish, and delight. The store also embraces the cooperative’s vision of being a trusted neighborhood hub where customers can always find quality, freshness, and friendly service,” he said.
Key Food is a regional grocery chain with Connecticut locations in Bridgeport, East Hartford, Hartford, Manchester, and New Haven. Key Food stores are also located in Maryland, Delaware, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida. The grocery chain was founded in Brooklyn, NY, in 1937.
Store owner Anthony Pena said he is excited to open Danbury’s first Key Food.
“It’s an honor to bring this market to the city,” Pena said. “Our goal is simple: to deliver fresh, quality products and exceptional service to our neighbors every day. We want Danbury residents to feel at home here and to know this is a market that truly cares.”
Pena said the new Key Food location will offer a wide range of fresh produce, bakery items, deli favorites, and everyday groceries.
