PORTSMOUTH — Two police officers were injured and a man was charged after police said he set a house on fire during a domestic dispute Sunday afternoon.
Around 2:45 p.m., officers responded to a call for a domestic dispute in the 4500 block of Caroline Avenue, according to a release.
When officers arrived, they interviewed a woman and while there, smelled gas and smoke, leading them to find 32-year-old Carlos Chavez Garcia setting the house on fire, according to police.
As the officers tried to rescue Garcia from the fire, he resisted and fought them, according to police. Both officers were injured and were taken to a local hospital for treatment but have been released, police said.
Garcia has been charged with arson, obstruction of justice and three counts of animal cruelty.
