Possible human remains found at construction site in Lake Worth

Possible human bones were uncovered on an active construction side in Lake Worth Beach on Monday, deputies say.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies found “what appeared to be” a femur and a pelvic bone when they were called to a construction site at 4489 Davis Road in Lake Worth Beach about 3 p.m. Monday, the Sheriff’s Office said in a media release. The release did not say who initially discovered the bones.

Deputies notified the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office and personnel from Florida Gulf Coast University, the release said. According to Teri Barbera, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, students from FGCU “are used to remove the bones.”

On Tuesday, officials began a “formal recovery operation,” searching for additional bones. A second forensic team was scheduled to continue searching on Wednesday.

Barbera did not provide further information about the bones or if they could be connected to any existing cold cases.

All remains will be sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.
