Previewing the Miami Hurricanes’ 2025 football schedule

Aug. 31: vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 7:30 p.m., ABC

The Buzz: How about this for an opener? Miami hosts last year’s national runner-up for the start of the Carson Beck Era. Although the Hurricanes don’t face the Fighting Irish often anymore, there is still antipathy between the two fanbases, especially after Miami routed Notre Dame the last time the two teams faced off (in 2017).

Sept. 6: vs. Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, 7 p.m., ACC Network Extra

The Buzz: Miami’s schedule gets a bit easier despite the short week, facing off against FCS Bethune-Cookman in what should be a chance for UM to stretch its legs and work out any kinks from the first game of the season.

Sept. 13: vs. South Florida Bulls, 4:30 p.m., the CW

The Buzz: The Hurricanes complete the home-and-home with the Bulls after beating USF in Tampa last year. Last season’s game was close for a half before Miami put South Florida away. The Hurricanes should take care of business again this season.

Sept. 20: vs. Florida Gators, time TBD, TV TBD

The Buzz: The Hurricanes blew out the rival Gators in Gainesville last year. Now UF will try to return the favor. Florida is in a better spot than it was last year with sophomore D.J. Lagway expected to be one of the nation’s top quarterbacks. Miami’s defense should be much improved, as well, so this could be a tone-setter for both teams.

Oct. 4: at Florida State Seminoles, time TBD, TV TBD

The Buzz: The Hurricanes get their first bye week after facing one rival before traveling to face another in their first road game of the season. FSU cannot possibly be as bad as it was last season, when it won only two games (and only one of those was against an FBS opponent). New quarterback Thomas Castellanos leads the way for what should be an improved Seminoles squad.

Oct. 17: vs. Louisville Cardinals, 7 p.m., ESPN or ESPN2

The Buzz: After another bye week, Miami hosts Louisville in a key ACC game. The Hurricanes’ last two games against the Cardinals were both decided by a touchdown, so expect another close one. Like Miami, Louisville has a transfer quarterback — former USC signal-caller Miller Moss — and has a South Florida standout, running back Isaac Brown, leading the way in the backfield.

Oct. 25: vs Stanford Cardinal, time TBD, TV TBD

The Buzz: After facing the Cardinals, the Hurricanes host the Cardinal for the first time after Stanford joined the ACC. Miami has never played Stanford, and with the Cardinal expected to be one of the weaker teams in the conference, UM should get a win.

Nov. 1: at Southern Methodist Mustangs, time TBD, TV TBD

The Buzz: Can a team that Miami has played only once before (in 1965) be a rival? SMU, a new addition to the ACC, might answer that question. Former Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee is the Mustangs’ head coach, and he has made a habit of poaching former UM players who enter the transfer portal. Former Hurricanes Brashard Smith, Jared Harrison-Hunte and Elijah Roberts were key members of SMU’s playoff team last year, and this year’s squad includes four former UM players — including former starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke.

Nov. 8: vs. Syracuse Orange, time TBD, TV TBD

The Buzz: Syracuse ended Miami’s postseason dreams last year, beating the Hurricanes in Syracuse to dash UM’s ACC title and playoff hopes. Under second-year coach Fran Brown, the Orange will look to keep up last year’s momentum after losing standout quarterback Kyle McCord. This year, they brought in former Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli to try to keep the offense running at a high level.

Nov. 15: vs. North Carolina State Wolfpack, time TBD, TV TBD

The Buzz: Miami closes its home slate with a matchup against N.C. State. The Wolfpack won the last matchup in 2023, and now they feature quarterback C.J. Bailey, a former Sun Sentinel Broward County small schools player of the year at Chaminade-Madonna.

Nov. 22: at Virginia Tech Hokies, time TBD, TV TBD

The Buzz: Miami travels to Blacksburg, Virginia, for the first time since 2022 to take on the rival Hokies. Virginia Tech was a preseason darling last year but ended the season with a disappointing 6-7 record. However, the Hokies nearly beat Miami at Hard Rock Stadium last year, and playing in Blacksburg is always difficult.

Nov. 30: at Pittsburgh Panthers, time TBD, TV TBD

The Buzz: The Hurricanes end the season with a road trip to Pittsburgh. The Panthers started the year strong last year, winning their first seven games before losing their last six. Pitt returns starting quarterback Eli Holstein and standout running back Desmond Reid, a Miramar native.
