The Orlando Pride wound up extending their eight-game winless streak in NWSL play on Saturday, settling for a 1-1 home draw against Bay FC.
“Similar story, really, going down one goal, a really pivotal moment in the match,” Orlando coach Seb Hines said. “But the players showed a lot of heart to come back. I never fault their attitude, their desire, their passion.”
Bay FC opened the scoring in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time. Orlando goalkeeper McKinley Crone lost control of the ball, allowing Caprice Dydasco to tee it up for Rachael Kudanaji to head in.
Crone is a hometown product who played for four years at Edgewater High before her collegiate career. Saturday marked her first league start, and to have it in front of her hometown was a special moment.
“It was kind of surreal. I don’t really know if I’ve processed it yet,” Crone said after the match. “I’m super grateful to be here in my hometown. And I don’t know how many times I can say that; I just love getting to say that. I’m grateful for my hometown.”
The Pride thought they earned an equalizer off a great move from Marta in the 55th minute. VAR took a look at the play and called it back for a handball, leaving Orlando still in search of a breakthrough despite dominating statistically. Overall Orlando outshot Bay FC 22-14, with eight shots on target compared to Bay’s five.
Orlando eventually drew level in the 70th minute thanks to a goal from Ally Watt. Jacqueline Ovalle’s cross found the head of Watt, who placed it perfectly to even the game.
The Pride have a chance to get back on track against Panamanian side Chorrillo on Tuesday in the Concacaf W Champions Cup.
