Princess Anne High graduate Zakiya Stephenson scored a career-high 22 points Thursday as the James Madison women beat Georgia State 84-64 before 2,025 in Harrisonburg.
Stephenson is in her second year with JMU (10-5, 2-1 Sun Belt) after one with Mississippi. She was 7 of 10 from the field and 4 of 7 on free throws.
The Dukes broke away after they trailed 15-11 after a quarter and led 35-31 at halftime over the Panthers (6-9, 1-2). Lake Taylor High alumna Ashanti Barnes had 16 points and 11 rebounds, Peyton McDaniel had 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Bree Robinson had 13 points, three steals and six assists. Delilah Soltys had no points but 10 rebounds and four assists.
Crystal Henderson and Grace Lanier led Georgia State with 13 points apiece.
No. 3 South Carolina 83, Alabama 57: Joyce Edwards scored 25 points as the host Gamecocks (14-1, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) beat the Crimson Tide (14-1, 0-1) for the 24th straight time.
Raven Johnson added 17 points for the Gamecocks, who played without injured second-leading scorer Ta’Niya Latson. South Carolina opened a double-digit lead late in the first half before the Crimson Tide cut it to 40-34 at halftime. But the Gamecocks used a 23-10 run in the third to retake control and put the game away.
Washington 64, No. 6 Michigan 52: Avery Howell had 22 points and a career-high 16 rebounds to lead the Huskies (12-2, 2-1 Big Ten) in Seattle. Sayvia Sellers added 11 points in the Huskies’ first win over an AP top-10 opponent since beating No. 9 Oregon State in 2024.
Michigan (11-2, 2-1), playing at Hec Edmundson Pavilion for the first time since 2005, was led by Syla Swords with 15 points and Olivia Olson with 12. Washington held the Big Ten’s top-scoring offense to 33% shooting.
Illinois 73, No. 7 Maryland 70: Berry Wallace scored 22 points, including two free throws with 15.6 seconds left, to lead the Illini to a home victory. Maryland’s Saylor Poffenbarger missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
Coach Brenda Frese’s Terrapins (14-1, 2-1 Big Ten) had won 42 straight games and were 78-1 over four seasons when leading going into the fourth quarter.
Cearah Parchment had 17 points and eight rebounds and was 8 of 10 at the free-throw line for the Illini. It was the 11th consecutive win for Illinois (13-1, 3-0), which is off to the best start in program history.
Diana Collins led Alabama with 17 points.

No. 8 TCU 72, Brigham Young 48: Olivia Miles had 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in Provo, Utah. Her 10th career triple-double helped the Horned Frogs (14-0, 2-0 Big 12) earn a 12th straight win over a Big 12 opponent.
Clara Silva had a team-high 15 points and seven rebounds for TCU, which has won every game by double digits. Sydney Benally led BYU (12-2, 1-1) with 18 points.
No. 10 Iowa State 80, Houston 62: Audi Crooks had 35 points and 13 rebounds, Jada Williams added 16 points and a career-high 14 assists, and the Cyclones (14-0, 2-0 Big 12) handled the host Cougars (6-7, 0-2).
Radford 75, Presbyterian 32: Freshman Georgia Simonsen scored 15 points for the Highlanders (9-7, 1-0 Big South), who held the Blue Hose (2-12, 0-1) to 20.4% shooting in Clinton, South Carolina.
Saint Joseph’s 55, VCU 45: The Hawks (10-3, 1-1 Atlantic 10) beat the Rams (4-10, 0-1) despite Mary-Anna Asare’s 20 points and seven rebounds. Rhian Stokes had 11 points and five assists for Saint Joseph’s.
Men
Samford 78, VMI 58: Dylan Faulkner had 25 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for the Bulldogs (8-6, 1-0 Southern Conference) as they won in Lexington. Jadin Booth shot 6 for 11 (4 for 8 from 3-point range) and 3 of 3 from the free-throw line to add 19 points.
TJ Johnson led the Keydets (5-9, 0-1) with 17 points. Tan Yildizoglu added 12 points, four assists and two steals.
