I never imagined I’d live in a country where the president would abuse the power of his office to silence critics, undermine vaccines, attack science, deploy the military against peaceful civilians, prosecute opponents, ignore a budget approved by Congress and unlawfully blow up fishing boats without investigating them or simply making them turn around.
Trump’s indiscriminate detention of undocumented immigrants – even hard-working taxpayers who have lived here for decades without criminal records – in camps with inhumane conditions is illegal, according to dozens of federal judges. ICE policy bars detention of pregnant women but multiple credible reports have found women miscarrying in detention due to mistreatment.
Beyond breaking laws, Mr. Trump’s rants on social media, such as a post to promote non-existent “medbeds” that magically heal you, raise serious questions about him.
Reasonable people can disagree on how to improve our broken immigration system, public safety and tax policy. But I believe most Americans agree on the need to respect the U.S. Constitution and did not intend to elect a dictator. I hope the No Kings Day rallies in Hartford, across Connecticut and nationwide on October 18 will attract massive crowds.
