Record cold, bitter wind chills and even some snow flurries ended January and started February for Central Florida overnight and early Sunday morning.
Orlando, Sanford, Leesburg, Daytona Beach and Melbourne all set record-low temperatures for Feb. 1, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
Orlando’s low temperature of 24 degrees broke the record of 28 degrees set in 1936. The overnight temperature fell to 23 in Sanford and Leesburg, breaking records from 1965 and 1979, respectively.
Still, the overnight temps did not reach the all-time record low for February, which was 19 for Orlando set back on Feb. 7, 1895.
