Off the Hook Yachts, a $100 million-a-year dealer, is expanding into Fort Lauderdale.
The business, which says it’s on track to become the “CarMax of Yachting” for its pricing, transparency and hassle-free ease of buying and selling used luxury boats, plans to open an yacht brokerage office at 151 Las Olas Circle, Unit 211, in Fort Lauderdale.
“This will be where top brokers sit and sell from with boats right out front of it,” spokesman Thomas Tobin said.
Another office will be opened in Jupiter in December, the company said.
The company has filed to sell stock on the New York Stock Exchange in October in what spokesman Thomas Tobin called the biggest maritime initial public offering in years. Shares will be offered at $5 to $7 each in hopes of raising $25 million.
Recently appointed CEO Brian John, an investment consultant and former CEO of Sure Shot, producers of a beverage meant to reduce effects of alcohol, estimates that Off the Hook’s revenues will more than double to $239 million by 2026, the company said.
John will work out of the Jupiter office at 951 N. Alternate A1A, Jupiter.
Tobin says the locations will become the flagship offices of the company.
Now headquartered in Wilmington, North Carolina, the company was launched as a high school side gig by Jason Ruegg out of his parents’ home in Annapolis, Maryland, and has since evolved into a $100 million-a-year business, the company’s website says.

Luxury retailer opens in private jet hub of airport
Executive Retail Shops is bringing its line of luxury goods to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. But you won’t find it in terminals served by the major airlines.
The company is opening two new shops in a private aviation hub — Sheltair Aviation’s Fixed Base Operations center at 1050 Lee Wagner Boulevard, Building 1050. The first 693-square-foot flagship store sells liquor and fragrances. A second 325-square-foot store scheduled to open this winter will only sell fragrances.
The stores are marketed to private jet travelers, the company’s president was quoted as saying in a news release. Customers will be able to shop in the stores or order online and choose to pick their goods up in the store or have them delivered directly to their flight terminal.
Other Executive Retail Shops can be found at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport. For more information or to shop online, visit www.executiveretailshops.com.
