A 19-year-old will spend more than 70 years in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend and her mother two years ago in North Catasauqua.

John Bradley, of North Whitehall Township, admitted in April to killing Rianna Lynn Glass, 16, and Rosalyn “Rose” Glass, 39, at their home on Sept. 13, 2023. He pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, and was sentenced Thursday to 73 years to life in prison — 36 1/2 years for each homicide.

Authorities said Bradley stabbed Rosalyn Glass 31 times, then killed her daughter by stabbing and choking her in their home in the 1100 block of Railroad Street. He then took Rosalyn Glass’ car and crashed it in Upper Saucon Township.

Prior to his sentencing, friends and family described Rianna as a positive force in their lives — a big sister and role model to her 10-year-old brother, someone who knew when and how to make people laugh and smile, and who truly cared about others, they said.

“Rianna was my light, my joy, my heart,” he said. “My first born.”

“There is a hole in my family that will never be filled,” Amber Glass, Rianna’s stepmother, said.

Roslyn was described as a hard working, selfless mom, who often sent her money back home to the Philippines for her brother and parents. She helped pay for her brother’s education, and her parents’ medication.

“Rose was their rock, and sense of hope,” Terry Glass said.

The pain of their loss casts a shadow over every family gathering, he said.

“Their deaths have changed the course of my life in ways I never could have imagined,” he said.

Bradley, who sat in an orange prison jumpsuit with his hair down to his shoulders, read a written statement apologizing for his actions.

He said he loved Rianna, who “radiates kindness and joy.”

“Rianna, to me, she was happiness,” he said.

Judge John Morganelli, in sentencing Bradley, said went on a “homicidal crime spree” that night.

He noted that there were no major mental issues that would have led to the crime, and said that a rough upbringing, which his defense claimed he had, does not mean Bradley should kill people. The killings happened, he said, because Bradley did not get what he wanted.

“You were a rabid animal,” he said.

Bradley and Rianna Glass had broken up about a month earlier after he allegedly cheated on her. The murders happened shortly after she told him she was seeing someone else.

The night of the killings, Rianna Glass told a friend that Bradley was coming over. Hours later, she texted that friend “He won’t leave the house.”

Phone location data for Bradley showed he was near the Glass home, and his phone later connected to Roslyn Glass’ car. The car was found crashed early the next morning about 15 miles away.

Bradley and a 14-year-old girl were ejected from the car. Bradley was found near a tree, with a knife close by. Investigators found his DNA and the DNA of Rianna and Rosalyn Glass on the knife. The 14-year-old girl, identified as a friend Bradley had called to come to the scene, had been spotted going into the Glass’ home about 2:30 a.m., and was seen leaving from the back of the house with Bradley about an hour later, authorities said.

Both were hospitalized following the crash. Authorities described the girl’s injuries are “extraordinary,” and on Thursday it was said she likely will need care for the rest of her life.

Rianna and Roslyn Glass were found dead in the home a few hours later.

After Rianna’s death, her father, Terry Glass, started a nonprofit organization called Rianna’s Voice to raise awareness of teen dating violence.

Rianna was a junior at Northampton Area High School and was involved in the 3D Dance Studio in Northampton, according to her obituary. The Rianna’s Voice website states she worked at Dunkin’, and had a dream of becoming a family lawyer.

Her mother worked at iHerb, a distribution center in Easton for an online supplement retailer. She was also a member of Grace Christian Fellowship in Bethlehem, according to her obituary.
