A rollover crash involving a utility pole led to a fire and power outage in Berlin late Thursday.
The collision was reported on Elton Road between Old Farms Place and Mallard Lane around 11:40 p.m., according to the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department.
Responding crews found that the lone vehicle involved left the road and hit a utility pole, leading to a rollover before the vehicle stopped against a tree, fire officials said. The utility pole sustained heavy damage which caused downed power lines and a fire that started in the brush along the road, according to fire officials.
The driver believed to be involved was found a “short distance” away following a brief search, which included a K-9 Unit with the Berlin Police Department, fire officials said. It was not immediately clear if the individual was injured.
Crews cut the power to the area and put out the roadside fire.
Elton Road was expected to be closed for an “extended period of time” as crews worked on the utility pole, fire officials said. According to Eversource, no outages were reported in Berlin on Friday morning.
