Romi Levy’s triple-double propels UVA women to victory

Romi Levy had a rare triple-double — 14 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists — Thursday night as the Virginia women breezed past Longwood 94-47 before 3,569 at John Paul Jones Arena.

Kymora Johnson had 23 points to lead the Cavaliers (4-1). Jaci Bolden led Longwood (4-2) with nine points.

Virginia Tech 83, Niagara 46: Kilah Freelon had 12 points, six rebounds and three steals for the Hokies (5-0) against the Purple Eagles (0-4) at Cassell Coliseum. Mel Daley led Tech with 13 points.

No. 5 LSU 112, Alcorn State 49: Flau’Jae Johnson and MiLaysia Fulwiley scored 18 points apiece as host LSU (6-0) set an SEC record for most consecutive 100-point games.

The Tigers’ sixth straight game with at least 100 points broke the record of five set by LSU’s 2022-23 national championship team. LSU is averaging a nation-leading 115.2 points, with an average victory margin of 60.2.

No. 19 Iowa 57, No. 7 Baylor 52: Ava Heiden had 18 points and 11 rebounds, with most of those coming in the second half, as Iowa overcame Taliah Scott’s huge night in the marquee game of the WBCA State Farm Showcase at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports near Orlando, Florida.

Scott scored 32 points and was often too much for the Hawkeyes (5-0) to handle, but she missed her final five shots as the Bears (4-1) faded. Heiden made 7 of 14 shots from the field.

No. 9 Maryland 95, Bethune-Cookman 49: Maryland scored the first 20 points, and the Terrapins remained undefeated and recorded a season high in scoring.

Kyndal Walker scored a career-high 13 points, and Oluchi Okananwa and Kaylene Smikle each also had 13 for Maryland (6-0). The Terps have won every game this season by at least 18 points.

Jordan Brooks had a team-high 13 points for the Wildcats (1-4), who committed 26 turnovers.

No. 10 TCU 80, Tarleton State 32: Marta Suarez had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Olivia Miles scored 18 points and TCU won its school-record 28th consecutive home game. The Horned Frogs (5-0) haven’t lost in Schollmaier Arena since falling 77-52 to West Virginia on Feb. 13, 2024.

Men

No. 15 Texas Tech 84, Wake Forest 83: JT Toppin scored 21 points for the Red Raiders at the Baha Mar Championship in Nassau, Bahamas.

Toppin, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year, had nine rebounds and four assists for the Red Raiders (4-1). Christian Anderson added 16 points and eight assists for Texas Tech, while Tyeree Bryan scored 13 and Jaylen Petty had 11. The Red Raiders, who will face No. 1 Purdue for the tournament title, sank 6 of 8 free throws in the final 90 seconds.

Juke Harris powered Wake Forest (3-2) with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Myles Colvin chipped in 19 points for the Demon Deacons, who will play Memphis in the third-place game.

No. 1 Purdue 80, Memphis 71: Fletcher Loyer scored 20 points at the Baha Mar Championship’s opening game. CJ Cox added 18 points for Purdue (5-0). He and Loyer each made four 3-pointers. Trey Kaufman-Renn finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and four assists before fouling out after 27 minutes, and reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Braden Smith had 11 assists.

Dug McDaniel paced the Tigers (1-3) with 18 points, six assists and six rebounds.

No. 2 Houston 91, Rider 45: Kingston Flemings scored 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting, Emanuel Sharp added 15 points, and the Cougars (5-0) won at home. Caleb Smith scored 13 for the Broncs (1-3), who shot 31%.

No. 14 St. John’s 97, Bucknell 49: Bryce Hopkins scored 20 points for the host Red Storm (3-1) in 17 minutes against the Bisons (2-4) for his highest-scoring game in nearly two years.

Hopkins who tore his ACL in January 2024 and played only three games for Providence last season due to continued knee trouble, made 7 of 9 shots and has scored in double figures in each game this season.

No. 20 Tennessee 89, Tennessee State 60: Ja’Kobi Gillespie scored 17 points to lead five in double figures for the Volunteers (5-0) in Knoxville. Nate Ament and Amaree Abram each scored 15, DeWayne Brown II had 13 and Felix Okpara scored 11 for the Vols.

Aaron Nkrumah scored 19 to lead the Tigers (2-3).

Central Florida 77, Pittsburgh 67: Riley Kugel and Themus Fulks scored 18 points each, Jamichael Stillwell had 12 points and 11 rebounds, and the Knights (5-1) beat the Panthers (4-2) in Daytona Beach, Florida, for UCF’s fourth straight win.

Kugel was 8 of 14 from the floor and Fulks 7 of 12, making all three of his 3-point tries. Cameron Corhen had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Pitt.

Miami 99, Elon 72: Tru Washington had an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double, Tre Donaldson and Shelton Henderson also scored 18 points, and the Hurricanes (4-1) beat the visiting Phoenix (3-2).

Malik Reneau had 17 points and Dante Allen added 14 for the Hurricanes, who have scored more than 85 points in four of their five games under new coach Jai Lucas.

Randall Pettus II led Elon (3-2) with 17 points
