An inmate at State Correctional Institution at Dallas has been charged with using a makeshift weapon in an effort to cut another prisoner last month, state police said.
Alex Javier Bonilla, 22, is accused of attacking fellow inmate Nick Ryan, 24, of Allentown, at the Jackson Twp. prison on the afternoon of July 1.
Police said Bonilla went after Ryan with what initially appeared to be a closed fist, making contact with a slashing motion.
A correctional officer who broke up the fight then noticed Bonilla wielding a playing card that had razor blades attached to it, troopers said.
Officers seized the homemade weapon and troopers charged Bonilla with procuring a weapon as an inmate. Court records indicated he had not been arraigned as of Wednesday.
Bonilla is serving a prison sentence in several cases, including on charges of fleeing police, reckless endangerment and criminal trespassing, according to court records.
